Bridging Teaching and Real‑World Practice
UNE’s teaching and clinical innovation centers support student‑centered learning and workforce‑ready clinical education through faculty development, interprofessional collaboration, and hands‑on practice. Together, these centers strengthen teaching excellence, foster teamwork across disciplines, and provide immersive simulation and clinical assessment experiences that prepare students for effective, collaborative practice in real‑world health and professional settings.
Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) supports excellence and innovation in teaching across the UNE community. Serving faculty, instructors, and academic staff, the center provides consultations, professional development, grants, and resources grounded in evidence‑based, student‑centered pedagogy. CETL promotes inclusive teaching practices that enhance student engagement, access, and success.
Center to Advance Interprofessional Education and Practice
The Center to Advance Interprofessional Education and Practice (CAIEP) is UNE’s hub for collaborative, team‑based learning across health and related disciplines. The center prepares students to work effectively across professions through simulations, service learning, and research. Its work emphasizes equity, social justice, and improved outcomes in clinical and community settings.
Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation Center
D.O. students utilize our Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation Center to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to realistic clinical situations before putting actual patients at risk. Guided by skilled instructors, students participate in simulations specifically designed to enhance their clinical aptitudes. Rather than just hearing and reading about difficult or unusual cases, students experience them by treating high-fidelity patient simulators and patient actors in scenarios that mimic real life.
Clinical Performance Center
The Clinical Performance Center (CPC) at the Â鶹ֱ²¥ is an interactive clinical skills education, testing, and evaluation facility located on UNE’s Portland Campus for the Health Sciences. Designed to mirror a real outpatient health care setting, the CPC features state‑of‑the‑art exam and simulation rooms equipped with audio and video recording technology that supports hands‑on learning, assessment, and reflective practice.
