Pam Morgan, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Environmental Studies, was an invited speaker at the Maine Association of Wetland Scientists’ annual conference, held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

In her talk, titled “What can Science Research Contribute to the Future of Maine Wetlands,” Morgan discussed her research in the Saco River estuary, describing how it is an example of a new approach to scientific studies. This novel method makes science more relevant and targets sustainable solutions to environmental problems. At the talk, Morgan gathered input from the wetland professionals and scientists in the audience to identify what the focus of future wetland research in Maine should be.

Several other UNE students and alumni, including Dylan Price (Environmental Studies, ’16) and recent graduate Jordan Tate (Envionmental Studies, ’15), were also in attendance. In addition, Samantha Hardy (Environmental Studies, ’17) presented her poster. Rene Legault, a graduate student in the Department of Biology, gave a talk regarding his research on the invasive grass Phragmites australis.
