About our Research and Scholarship Forums

UNE’s College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (COM) research and scholarship forums are intended to share and celebrate the research conducted by our UNE COM students. Preparing and presenting a poster is a skill and the UNE COM Research and Scholarship Committee embraces its mission for advancing research within UNE COM by supporting our students as they conduct and present their research. Medical students have several opportunities to present their research projects.

Schedule

Mid-to-Late Fall

Annual Fall UNE COM Student Research and Scholarship Forum, September

Open to all UNE COM students, OMS I, II, III, IV. Other students (undergraduates, graduate students, or professional students) working with UNE COM faculty are eligible to present their poster but are not eligible for awards. Call for abstracts in early August.

February

Midwinter Maine Osteopathic Association (MOA) Symposium

The MOA, in conjunction with UNE COM, hosts a Research Forum at its Midwinter Symposium opened to all of our medical students and residents. Call for abstracts in November.

May

Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network (NEOMEN)

Open to UNE COM students and any medical student at NEOMEN residency sites along with interns, residents, and residency faculty in NEOMEN AOA-accredited residencies. Call for abstracts in December

Awards are given to first authors who present their posters and receive the highest scores in specific award categories in each of the research forums above.

UNE COM Spring Research Bulletin

COM is pleased to present the inaugural Spring Research Bulletin, featuring abstracts submitted by UNE COM students that reflect a broad spectrum of research and scholarly activity. This publication highlights student inquiry, innovation, and a strong commitment to advancing medical knowledge.

Several students featured in this bulletin also presented at UNE COM’s Spring Lightning Talk event. Lightning talks are brief, focused presentations designed to challenge presenters to communicate their research clearly and effectively within a limited timeframe. This format promotes concise scientific communication and fosters engagement within the research community.
